Archives for “Books”
I don’t know what Bret Easton Ellis wanted to communicate with this; if he’s serious or just trying to be “alternative” or if he posted it simply because he does not have any other way to get attention, but whatever the reason is he made an ass of himself. He’s not only one of the most [...]
It’s unbelievable how newspapers are late and not accurate in giving news; which, by the way, should be their job… Today I’ve found a news talking about an OCSE statistic according to which Italy was in 23rd position out of 30 for average net salaries. I’ve been to Repubblica.it, Corriere.it and LaStampa.it, but none of them, which [...]
Chuck Palahniuk is definitely a genius. An evil genius, but still a genius.. This book is as great as his other books (if you’ve read Fight Club only you’re missing something) and demonstrates how the author takes a lot of his inspiration from true life, even if sometimes it seems impossible. It’s a collection of essays and [...]
Don DeLillo is a great writer, and that’s something I’m not discovering today or with this book. Underworld for example is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Falling Man is a good book. Not a masterpiece but for sure a thought-provoking book, with deep characters and a very original way of switching among their [...]
On a Facebook ad (yes, someone clicks on them…) I found this great website: BetterWorld.com. It’s a bookstore selling used and new books but with a clear social aim: “to fund literacy initiatives worldwide” When I see something like that I can’t help thinking “why on earth I didn’t think about that before?”. I believe it’s a great [...]
That’s a brilliant book! Funny and clever, extremely well written and with wonderful characters. The father is hilarious and the Ukraenglish language made me crack up several times. I definitely recommend it! It’s a good book, I liked it and also recognized myself (and some friends) in the situations. The problem is it reminded me too much Jpod, [...]
At the beginning I was doubtful. The title was not promising and it felt almost as “new age”. Considering though that it came as a gift (the EMEA retail general manager gave it as a gift to everybody in retail to celebrate San Jordi) I decided to read it. I have to say that “Blink”, Malcolm Gladwell’s [...]
I love Johnathan Coe. I read almost all his books. It sounds like a disclaimer, and in fact I loved this one too, The Closed Circle. If you’ve read The Rotter’s Club you just can’t miss this one, but even if it’s the first Coe’s book you read it makes perfectly sense. I really think Coe is one [...]
